Son of Frederick II von Hohenstaufen, Duke of Swabia, and Judith von Welf, daughter of Henry IX of Bavaria.

Drowned in the Goksu river in Anatolia.

Legend has him sleeping under a mountain in either Thuringia or Bavaria until he is needed.
