John Quincy Adams was the Sixth (6th) President of the United States. He was the first President who was the son of another President (John Adams).

He served from 1825 to 1829.

Adams was born on July 11, 1767, in Braintree, Massachusetts. He died on February 23, 1848, two days after collapsing on the floor of the House of Representatives. He had been elected to the House from Massachusetts two years after his Presidential term ended, and serve for 17 years.

Because neither Andrew Jackson nor Adams had an electoral majority in 1824, Adams was elected by the House. He was said to have made a "corrupt bargain" with the Speaker, Henry Clay, in exchange for making Clay his secretary of state when he became president. However, the practice of rewarding political supporters with appointments within an administration soon became common.
