Born Marion Michael Morrison, on May 26, 1907, in Winterset, Iowa. Known for his patriotism and outspoken views, mostly on politics, Wayne never backed down if he thought he was right. Wayne won his only Oscar in 1969 for True Grit. Married three times and the father of seven children, Wayne died of cancer in June 1979 at the age of 72.
