Juan Ponce de León (1474-1521), a Spanish explorer and conquistador, was the first Spanish governor of the colony at Puerto Rico. He also named Florida on an expedition in 1513. One quest associated with Ponce de Leon was the fabled "fountain of youth", but this was not attributed to him during his lifetime. His travels along the Gulf Stream and The Florida Keys were added to the official Spanish navigation maps.
