she discovered two new elements (radium and polonium, two radioactive elements that they extracted chemically from pitchblende ore) and studied the x-rays they emitted. She found that the harmful properties of x-rays were able to kill tumors. By the end of World War I, Marie Curie was probably the most famous woman in the world. She had made a conscious decision, however, not to patent methods of processing radium or its medical applications.

Marie Sklodowska Curie was a Polish chemist and physicist who studied in the field of radioactivity. She and her husband, Pierre Curie, founded the element radium using pitchblende, and mineral that contains uranium and oxygen. She won 2 Nobel Prizes for her work. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the first person to win 2 Nobel Prizes. She also is credited with creating a small dose of radium used to help fight off cancer. She was born on November 7th, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland. She died on July 4th, 1934, in Passay, France, from over-exposure to radium. She and Pierre had two children, Eve and Irene.

And this is all the real stuff I'm not kidding because I've been spending weeks doing a report on her for school, so I would know.
