George W. Bush (born July 6, 1946) was the 43rd President of the United States, and also former governor of the state of Texas. Bush served as Texas governor from 1995 to 2000, when he was elected to his first term as President, defeating sitting Vice-President Albert Gore of Tennessee. Bush was re-elected in 2004 in another close election, over Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts. Bush was succeeded on January 20, 2009, by the 44th US President, Barack Obama.
