William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925) was a famous lawyer and statesman who ran for President three times. His powerful speeches earned him the title "Silver-Tongued Orator." Bryan, a devout Presbyterian, victoriously defended the Bible in a famous court case against a teacher who was illegally teaching evolution in the classroom. This case was called the Scopes trial, or the "monkey trial." William Jennings Bryan won the case against evolution.
