Who was alger hiss? |
[Improve]
Alger Hiss was a high ranking State Department official and advisor to Franklin D. Roosevelt. During the second Red Scare (1947-1957), in 1948, he was accused of being a communist and Soviet spy. After a second trial in 1950, he was charged guilty and sentenced to 5 years in prison (of which he only served 44 months). Richard M. Nixon was the one who broke the impasse on the case by finding out that incriminating evidence was hidden in a pumpkin.
