John Tyler was the tenth President of the United States (1841-1845), so He was President at the beginning of the Fremont expeditions. Tyler became President upon the death of William Henry Harrison's short lived Presidency of one month.

From 1842 to 1846 Frémont and his guide Carson led expedition parties on the Oregon Trail.
