William "Billy" Mitchell. He was a General in the Army during the early 1900s who saw how the Germans used air power very well during WWI. He begged and pleaded with the Army to add an Air Force, but he was rejected. When he disagreed with Army policy and tried to start an Air Force, then he was courtmartialled. However, WWII, Germany's Luftwaffe, and America's lack of preparedness would vindicate Mitchell and show how he right he was about air power in winning modern wars. As a result, he deserves to be known as the father of the USAF.
