Who was the first bowler to take 300 wickets in test cricket?

Fred Trueman took 307 wickets by 1965 when his career finished. The next was Lance Gibbs who took 309 wickets. His career ended in 1976. He was the only bowler of those taking 300 wickets or more who was playing at the same time as Fred Trueman. The third to take 300 wickets was the Dennis Lillee.
