America's generals love to brag about their all-volunteer Army. That's because they tend to overlook Jeffrey Mellinger. He donned his Army uniform for the first time on April 18, 1972, about the time the Nixon Administration was seeking "peace with honor" in Vietnam and The Godfather was opening on the silver screen. Nearly 37 years later, he's still wearing Army green. Mellinger is, by all accounts, the last active-duty draftee serving in the U.S. Army.
The US Army draft ended on 28 September 1971, when President Nixon signed Public Law 92-129. However, several names already had been selected and inducted over the next 18 months. Archie Turner was the last known person drafted into the US Army, on June 30, 1973.

USA was US Army; RA was a volunteer (enlistee), RA=Regular Army. USN was US Navy. US on a dog-tag or ID card meant a draftee/conscripted (during the Vietnam War).
No. It is last name only.
Don't see any men being inducted into the US Army or Marine Corps, right? Then it was successful.
Today
Elvis Presley was inducted into the US Army (as he received his official draft notice during the third week of December 1957).

Conscripts or draft induced volunteers were present until the south fell in April '75. US Marines or US Sailors or US Airman were conscripts or "conscript induced" volunteers up thru '75. A drafted man in 1969/1970 was obligated until at least 1975. For the US Army, draftee replacements continued to arrive in country until re-deployment of units occurred in '73.
