The depression began while Herbert Hoover was President.

Franklin Roosevelt took office on March 4, 1933, during the Great Depression.

He served as president from the beginning of World War II until his death in April ,1945. The war in Europe ended a month after his death. Harry Truman then became president and the war with Japan ended while he President,
The President of the United States during the Great Depression and World War II was Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Note that Herbert Hoover was President when the Great Depression began, and Harry Truman was President when World War II ended. FDR is the only man who presided over both events.

Herbert Hoover was President of the US at the start of the depression; Franklin Roosevelt became President in 1933 and remained president until April 12, 1945 when he died. Vice President Harry Truman then became President.

Herbert Clark Hoover (1929 - 1933) was the president of the great depression. Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933 - 1945) was the president for most of the war but died of poor health. Then Harry S. Truman (1945 - 1953) who was president for the last 5 months of the war.
