Construction began when the first cornerstone was laid in October of 1792. Although President George Washington oversaw the construction of the house, he never lived in it. It was not until 1800, when the White House was nearly completed, that its first residents, President John Adams and his wife, Abigail, moved in.

Where did each US President live when they were elected president?

ummm The White House. BS...the question seeks to differentiate between the state of birth and the state of residence...Barack Obama born in Hawaii but lived in Illinois when elected; George W. Bush-born in Connecticut but lived in Texas; George H.W. Bush born in Massachusetts but lived in Texas: Ronald Reagan born in Illinois but lived in California; Gerald Ford-born in Nebraska but lived in Michigan (though he was never elected). Sometimes the state of birth and the state of residence are the same: Bill Clinton-Arkansas; Jimmy Carter-Georgia; Richard Nixon-California; Lyndon Johnson-Texas....they don't live in the White House until after they are innaugurated.
