The Cambodian Civil War (1970-1975) was between the Khmer Rouge, a Communist party led by Pol Pot, and the anti-Communist Government led by Lon Nol. It was a very violent civil war but eventually, the Khmer Rouge took power and all enemies of Pol Pot were immediately executed. Initially, the people of Cambodia were overjoyed that the fighting was over and thought the communists would bring peace. But within days, Pol Pot ordered the roundup of all intellectuals and Khmers living in the cities and sent them to forced labor camps. For the next four years from 1975-1979, the Cambodian Genocide would take place and two million innocent Khmers would be murdered.
