Michael Drayton was one of many contemporaries as he wrote during the same period of time. He also wrote poems and he also published a few books, including 'The harmony of the church.', 'Idea's mirror' (which was a book of 64 sonnets) and 'The Shepherd's Garland.' He was British.

Also, A man named George Chapman was writing within Shakespeare's times and he attended Oxford university for quite sometime, however, he never took a degree. However, this did not stop him from being a poet, translator, dramatist or a playwright. He was also British.
