Elbridge Bryant was actually one of the original members, not David Ruffin. Ruffin was only hired after Bryant was fired in the early sixties('63ish?)

That is correct. Elbridge " Al " Bryant was the original lead. Hack

The composition of the group changed considerably since its inception in 1960 as 'The Elgins.'

The original group consisted of

Otis Williams (born Otis Miles, Jr. - October 30, 1941)

Melvin Franklin (1942-1995)

Paul Williams (1939-1973)

Eddie Kendricks (1939-1992) - left 1971

Elbridge Bryant (1939-1975) - left 1963

In 1964, the group included David Ruffin (1941-1991).

Dennis Edwards (born February 3, 1943) replaced Ruffin and sang with the group during

several periods from 1968 to 1989 and heads the group called The Temptations Review.

Ricky Owens (1939-1996) replaced Kendricks briefly in 1971, leaving after two months.

From 1971 to 1993, Richard Street (1942-2013) sang with the group.

Damon Harris (1950-2013) was in the group from 1971 to 1975.

Louis Price (born March 29, 1953) replaced Edwards from 1977 to 1980.

Glenn Leonard (born June 11, 1947) was in the group from 1975 to 1983.

From 1984 to 1996 Ali-Ollie Woodson (1951-2010) was a member.

Theo Peoples (born January 24, 1961) replaced Street in 1992 and was in the group until 1998

when he joined the contemporary lineup of The Four Tops.

Harry McGilberry (1950-2006) sang with the group from 1995 to 2003.

Ray Davis (1939-2005) was briefly in the group beginning in 1995.

Bo Henderson (born June 10, 1956) replaced Theo Peoples from 1998 to 2003.

In 2003, the members were

Ron Tyson (born February 8, 1948) - joined 1985

Terry Weeks (born December 23, 1963) - joined group in 1997

G.C. Cameron (born September 21, 1945) - from 2003 to 2007

Joe Herndon (born January 5, 1949) - joined 2003

In early 2015, the members were

Otis Williams

Ron Tyson

Terry Weeks

Joe Herndon

Bruce Williamson (born September 28, 1970) - joined group in 2006

In 2015, Herndon and Williamson left, and their replacements were

Larry Braggs (from Tower of Power)

Willie Green (sang with Richard Street's group)

There were five founding members of the group The Temptations. Their names were Otis Williams, Elbridge Bryant (known as Al), Paul Williams, Melvin Franklin, and Eddie Kendrick's. The lineup has changed frequently over the years, but as of 2013 the group continues to tour with the one living founding member, Otis Williams.
