Who were the Knights Templar? |
[Edit] |
Answer
They were a small group and the first of Christian military knights. They
served in the first crusade and when they were housed at the Temple
Mount in 1118 they numbered only nine. Somehow, despite their vows of
poverty they became a wealthy and powerful order. Rumors abounded as
to what secrets and wealth they held. In 1307 Pope Clement V ordered
their arrest for heresey and the King of France complied, the required acts
of torture obtained confessions and the Order was banned. On 19 March
1314 their leader Jaques de Molay was burned at the stake. Legends and
rumors persist to this day about what wealth and secrets the Templars
concealed and where it is hidden.
