Answer
Halloween began as an ancient festival for the Celts. They lived almost 2,000 years ago in Great Britian and Ireland. Autumn was a scary time for them. They believed evil spirits were pushing the sun away. October 31 was like their New's Year Eve marking the beginning of winter. To please their god of death, Samhain, they sacrificed humans and animals. Druids, their priests, believed witches, demons and spirits of the dead roamed the earth on the eve of November 1. They offered the spirits good things to eat to appease them. The priests disguised themselves for protection against the unholy.
