Most of the time South America would be first because it lies much farther east than North America.
However, in the middle of North American summer at high latitudes, North America is first. On June 21, St.John's Newfoundland (eastmost city in North America) has sunrise about a half-hour before Pernambuco, Brazil (eastmost city in South America).
Above the Arctic Circle, there is 24-hour sunlight in summer, but nobody cares except the polar bears.
