Who won the first New York Marathon?

Held in 1970, the first New York City Marathon was won by Gary Muhrcke in 2:31:38.

Organized by the New York Road Runners Club president Vince Chiappetta and Fred Lebow, it had 127 competitors running several loops around the Park Drive of Central Park. According to wikipedia, only about one-hundred spectators watched the race.
