The book is about a man, Phileas Fogg, who accepts a bet to travel around the world in 80 days. This he successfully does, using a combination of rail and steamer. (N.B. although used in film versions, there is no use of a hot-air balloon in the original novel).

The famous French novelist Jules Verne wrote the book Around The World In Eighty Days. It was a very sensational novel, first published in 1873. It was also serialized in News Papers and people thought this journey actually took place. When it was acted in theatres, upto three hundred shows were played.

Jules Verne also wrote the other equally famous novels like '20 000 Leagues Under the Sea,' 'A Voyage on a Balloon' and 'Paris in the 20th Century.'
