George Harrison of Beatles fame wrote My Sweet Lord. It was released in 1970 seven months after the band broke up. It was Harrison's first single as a solo artist and was the highest selling single in 1971.

That's kind of tricky. The very next singer to record it (after George Harrison) was Billy Preston, who at the time wasn't a gospel singer (he was when he was a teen). But singing backup were The Edwin Hawkins Singers. In that version, "Hare Krishna" is sung, but only twice.

The next one would be Marion Williams in 1971.
