Abram and Sarai had their names changed to Abraham and Sarah in Genesis 17:5,15.

Genesis 17:5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.

Genesis 17:15 God also said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah.

Abram means "exalted father" and Abraham means "father of many". In biblical times one's name reflected who one was (one's name had a meaning) so when one's life changed so dramatically a new name was appropriate.

Likewise, Jacob's name was changed to Israel in Genesis 32:28. Israel means "God struggles" or "one who struggles with God", which reflects Jacob's Wrestling with God in Genesis 32.
