yes. pull apart the 4 prong square plug leading from the ignition....then on the side not leading to the ignition...connect the red and brown wires (should be diagonal across in the plug) together and it should turn on. i hope this helps you

Civics from 1978 had points and a coil, not an ignition module. The points are inside the distributor, and the coil is the large cylinder with a fat, sparkplug-type wire leading from one of its ends to the center of the distributor. If you want to get rid of the points, etc, Pertronix makes an electronic ignition that hides inside the distributor. I've got one in my '75 civic, and it's awesome.
