To start off, an ion is an atom that has gained or lost one or more electrons. The definition of a molecule is two or more atoms held together by a covalent bond. Hydrogen only has one proton. This means that it can pass that one proton onto another element, making it part of a molecule. It can become an ion if it loses that one proton, or gains another proton.

A hydrogen atom consists of one electron and one proton only. H+ ion is formed when hydrogen looses its electron. Since hydrogen has only one electron, the only particle which is left after releasing electron from the hydrogen is proton, therefore the H+ ion is same as proton.

Electron has a negative charge so it can't be the proton/ H+, which is positive. They are opposite of each other.

Hydronium ion (H3O+) is formed when water (H2O) forms a coordinate covalent bond with H+. It can not be the H+ ion.

H2O: + H+ --------> H3O+

Hydrate is related to water. In inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry it is defined as a substance that contains water. e.g. ethanol, CH3-CH2-OH, can be considered as a hydrate of ethylene, CH2=CH2

CH2=CH2 + H2O ----------> CH3-CH2-OH

Therefore, non of the other species like electron, hydronium ion or hydrate are same as H+ ion...

HBr plus NaOH equals plus?

HBr + NaOH ------> NaBr + H2O This is an acid-base reaction. The compounds will disassociate into ions in solution. The hydrogen from the HBr will go to the OH- and form water. The NaBr is a salt.

What does H plus and OH- stand for?

H plus and OH negative are ions of hydrogen and hydroxide in their dissolved states. When a compound is broken down, it is broken down into it's ions, which will each have a charge.
