First off diesel fuel has a higher energy density than gasoline. Unlike a gasoline engine that uses spark plugs to ignite the fuel the diesel has no spark plugs and the fuel is ignited by heat through high compression. This is the reason a diesel is more powerful than a gas engine. High compression, and high temperature at combustion equals more power or torque as it is called. Diesels engines develop more torque or pulling power than gas engines but gas engines develop more horsepower. So simply put, if you want pulling power you need a diesel.

What is the difference in how a normal car engine and a diesel car engine in how they work?

diesel engines compress the fuel mixture much more than gasoline engines, diesel engines are always fuel injected while gasoline engines have the option of being carbureted, diesel engines usually cost more, diesels produce more power than a comparable gasoline engine, diesel engines have no distributor or spark system, and instead use glow plugs to ignite fuel, and diesel engines can be converted to run on vegetable oil with few modifications.

Reasons to Use a Diesel Truck?

A diesel truck can be the perfect too for someone who needs a powerful engine that does not guzzle gasoline. Diesel engines are some of the strongest in the industry. They provide an efficient, powerful engine at a fraction of the fuel consumption of traditional gasoline engines. Carrying Heavy Loads Diesel trucks are particularly good at hauling heavy loads. The firing mechanism within a diesel engine is designed to use every bit of the energy that is produced, which makes diesel engines incredibly efficient. They require less diesel fuel to create the same amount of energy that a traditional gasoline engine needs for the same amount of power. Many construction trucks and tractors are designed with diesel fuel engines for just that reason. Diesel engines are also used extensively for larger capacity machinery, as well, like cargo ships and diesel trains. More Fuel Efficient When the combustion chamber compresses the oxygen and diesel fuel, it burns all of the fuel. This means that every ounce of energy is squeezed from every last drop of diesel. Diesel engines need to be refueled far less often than gasoline engines. Since most gasoline trucks are known for their ability to burn through gallons of gasoline incredibly quickly, it makes financial sense to switch over to a diesel engine. The money that you spend for the diesel truck will be made up in a matter of months by the reduction in fuel costs. Diesel fuel prices also tend to stay more stable than gasoline prices, which can pay off in the long run. Cleaner Diesel Engines Diesel has had a bad reputation since its early days. The engines may be more fuel efficient, but they have always produced billows of blue smoke. Most consumers think of this dirty exhaust when they think of a diesel truck. Modern science has begun to eliminate the smoke from the diesel burning process, however, which is making diesel a much more attractive choice for consumers who need a less expensive fuel option. Diesel engines still spew some smoke, but not nearly as much as they used to before scientists began to tackle the dirty problem and find workable solutions.
