Uranus and Neptune are sometimes called the twin ice giants: they are of similar size, composition, and relative distance from the sun.

By comparison, Earth and Venus are also often referred to as twins, for many of the same reasons.

But like Earth and Venus, Uranus and Neptune do have substantial differences: early in its history, Uranus was struck by something large and tilted onto its side, while Neptune has the fasted winds ever recorded in the solar system and the giant captured moon Triton, which orbits the planet in retrograde (backwards).

The reason they are considered to be sister, or twin planets, is because they are almost identical in size, and because they both appear to be blue. Their chemical makeup is almost identical as well.
