The people of New Guinea are black because they have their roots in the African continent. The people of Africa are naturally black and that is why all their descendants have the same skin color.

As Papua New Guinea is very diverse, it truly depends on which area you are asking. Some Papua New Guineans can be very pale, even white or tanned yellow (Central, Milne Bay People etc.) or can be very dark-skinned, black (Tolai- New Britain, Autonomous Region of Bougainville people).
