Amphibians are a good indication beause their skin is very absorbant to chemicals and other nasties... look at it this way. U can kill a frog by touching his skin if u don't wet ur hand with his original water first. So they are very delicate creatures and if their living area becomes contaminated you can see a massive different in species and numbers. So to calculate say if a factory went up next so some wetlads or a marsh, people can take records from before it was built and compare the data to months after it was built to see if its polluting the area.

Frogs are important for many reasons. They control populations of insects and other invertibrates. Frogs are also an indicator species. This means that if the air, water, or food source in a frog's environment is poluted, the frogs will have symptoms, including prone to diseases and abnormalties in offspring that let peole know that something is wrong.

They are a good indicator specie because they can inhale toxins through their skin so if their habitat is polluted, they would start to die. Also, they live in two different conditions. Water and land.

There is quite a large agreement that the frogs are good indicators of habitat disturbance, both locally and globally. The frogs skin is permiable in that it readily absorbs chemical substances, they have a fast generation time, they have low mobility at a landscape level in that if conditions are bad it is difficult for them to move on to a new habitat. They are also sensitive to changes in moisture, food abundances etc at the local area as they do not forage over a large area.

Frogs are sensitive to environmental change, so if frogs are in trouble (which they are) this is an early warning that the environment is changing.
