They give shelter to homeless animals, and give the animals a place to eat and sleep.
Becuase they bring in animals and people care for them instead of having them live on the street where the wont get any water, or any food.
because they give animals another chance when owners won't or can't
An animal shelter takes in unwanted/abandoned animals and cares for them until they are strong enough emotionally and physically to be adopted to a family that will take care of them.
people put there pets in shelters so they dont get wet or injured in cold and windy weatrhers
It is only fair
56% of dogs and 71% of cats are euthanized at animal shelters == ==

In my opinion, yes. Animals should not be killed if they can't get adopted. Put it this way, if you were in a foster home and you couldn't get adopted, would you want to be killed? No, so why should the shelters kill the animals? Exactly, they shouldn't because that is called abuse. So final answer: All animal shelters should become no-kill animal shelters.

Because they don't want it, or they can't afford it.
4 million animals die a year because there isn't enough room in animal shelters!!
It is only fair
2 weeks
It is always too many.
Because there are so many animals there that don't have homes that their only choice is to put them to sleep. :( There aren't enough shelters or adoptive parents for all the animals. Most of the shelters live on donations as well. Some animals have had a rough life and can not be rehabilitated and is dangerous to to people while others are too sick.
animal shelters try their best not to put animals down due to overcrowding. I have never heard of any shelter putting animals down for this reason, if they have too many they put good home wanted notices in papers and the internet. But, Depending where you are....They do put them down alot due to overcrowding.......Where i live,They put alot down each week.....I have to agree of what they should do....Put notices up...But most shelters just put them down...Its really truly sad :(
In this econemy most people who are foreclosed on or down size cannot take their pets with them. This ahad lead to an influx of pets being abandoned at local shelters. Specifically in the south a shelter will take a heathly dog or cat and keep it for about three weeks. If no one has adopted it by that time they will put it to sleep in order to make room for more dogs and cats. Sometimes animals also come in sick or harmful to people and they are put down immediatly. The shelters do not try to harm the animals, but the more people that can't afford their animals the more end up in shelters and the more have to die. It is a sad fate, but one that cannot be avoided at this moment.
