Battery free glasses for 3D are better if they are being used with passive 3D televisions.

LG only have passive 3D television so the battery free glasses work with them. The other premium brands such as Samsung, Sony etc all use active 3D and their glasses are battery powered. The active glasses are far better for use with active televisions because the battery free glasses won't work with them.

Previous criticisms of active glasses were weight and battery life. With the weight below one ounce and battery life of over 100 hours, neither of these are issues any more.

How can you fix the flickers in your 3D glasses?

Flicker is a common problem in active 3D TVs but they can become more serious if the 3D glasses are low on battery. Check the battery on your 3D glasses. You can't completely fix the flicker problem on active 3D TVs. Passive 3D TVs are supposed to be better with flickers. LG 3D TV is certified flicker free and gets almost no flicker at all.

Is it true that the quality of 3D reduces when you use battery free 3D glasses?

Passive 3D televisions use battery free glasses and they cut the effective resolution in half, so a 1080 line display will effectively become a 540 line display.

Do you know which brand or model of 3D TV that is flicker free and crosstalk free which uses battery free 3D glasses?

There are two technologies in use with 3D television. Active 3D requires glasses that have batteries while passive models do not. Crosstalk in active glasses has been a problem but it depends on the make of glasses and television. For passive 3D, look at Sony, Visio, Toshibe or LG.

Are active 3D glasses better than the passive 3D glasses because they have battery and are more expensive that active glasses seem to be more sophisticated and reliable?

Active 3D glasses are far better than passive glasses when used with an active 3D television. Similarly, passive 3D glasses work well with passive televisions. Active glasses have been criticized for their weight in the past. Later glasses are lighter than many passive glasses, have a battery life of over one hundred hours and are proving to be exceptionally reliable.

What is the difference between rechargeable and battery free 3D glasses?

There are two types of 3D TV. One is the active type and the other is passive 3D TV. The first one is 'shutter glasses' and the second is 'polarized glasses'. Shutter glasses have a kind of shutter that needs a rechargeable battery. The active glasses last over 100 hours on a single charge these days and are as light as some passive glasses. Depending on the type of 3D television you have you will need one or other type of glasses.

My friend has a 3d tv which works on battery free glasses so why doesn't all 3D manufacturers implement this in their TVs?

Battery free glasses are also known as passive 3D glasses. They rely on the television image being divided into alternate lines to generate two separate images. Although this is considered to avoid problems of flicker, it is at the expense of resolution which is cut in half. Active glasses require batteries but enable full resolution images to be seen. Active glasses are sometimes criticized for flicker but it is important to audition both types and make your own assessment of which works better for you.

What 3D TV gives you the most theater like 3D movie experience?

LG Cinema 3D is probably the best one to go for if you want a theater-like 3D experience. LG Cinema 3D series use the same technology as the movie theater 3D screens (as opposed to shutter glasses technology in other 3D tvs). LG Cinema 3D uses lightweight, battery free 3D glasses that give you flicker free and crosstalk free images. You can actually use 3D glasses from movie theaters with LG Cinema 3D (you can't with other 3D tvs).

How long do the shutter glasses work for after a full charge?

The 3D glasses for Samsung's active 3D TV lasts for about 2 1/2 hours. After that, they start to blink very rapidly and eventually just go black. Basically, if you plan on long movies like Avatar, you're going to need two glasses unless you turn them on and off during the movie. You should just get the passive 3D TVs where they use battery free 3D glasses. Way better.

Do passive 3D TVs sacrifice the picture quality for its lightweight and cheap 3D glasses?

No, not at all. LG is the biggest maker of passive 3D TVs and LG Cinema 3D gives you the same 3D experience as the movie theater at home. The lightweight, battery free 3D glasses are polarized (just like those you get at movie theaters) and they give you images with hig quality that's also flicker free and crosstalk free.
