We people diet when we think we look fat and all. So, we put on a diet schedule to shrink ourselves. This is not a very good process as we do not know exactly how less should we eat. And, eventually it may have a negative affect on the body and hence unhealthy.
But, If we diet in an advised manner(from a doctor) then a diet is absolutely good to follow.
It depends on what type of diet you are undertaking. Some, such as one meal per day, obviously deteriorates the body's health as the body does not receive sufficient nutrients that it needs in order to function properly. However, other diets, especially ones recommended by doctors, has a positive effect on the body as it reduces the excess fat produced by the body when eating too much junk food.
Basically, a diet is simply a program, or a plan for what you're "allowed" to eat.
Having a plan is neither good or bad, itall depends on what's in it.
Some diets, specially those who promise that you'll lose a lot of weight really fast can be too strict, and prevent you from getting all the nutrients actually needed to stay healthy - and it's those diets that are bad.
A good diet will see that you get all the important stuff, while still restricting your calorie intake enough to allow you to lose weight in a controlled and healthy manner.
