Because of their tusks. They are traded illeagally to make all kinds of ornaments and medicines. They are hunted illegally, so actually, the word isn't "hunted" it's "poached" their tusks are removed for ivory which is quite expensive
In basic poachers hunt them for their tusks (Ivory) which is in demand in some Asian and African areas. Its also being sought after by traders who sell it illegally in other countries. Some make ornaments others believe the tuck as medical powers. Latter has been been dis-proven many times but still sadly they hunt these creatures and kill them for what is basically the same composite as hair.
