Why are hymns often sung after prayers?

Hymns usually date back to the olden times and then they had perfected the art of reaching out to God and the holyspirit so after praying people still want God presence to linger around in the atmospere snd as you may know hyms are mostly prayer like so its just continuing prayer but in a different manner :)
