Because, if there were no laws, people would do Anything they felt like, murder, robbery, rape, speeding. It's to protect people from others and to stop them from harming themselves. A place without laws is a very dangerous place indeed. Look at northern Mexico, I am sorry to have to write about.

Because - without rules and laws, there would be no 'order' to society and anarchy would reign. There would be nothing to stop a person stabbing someone 'just because they didn't like their face' - or - walking into a bank and demanding a large amount of cash. No-one would wait in line at fuel pumps, or supermarkets. The whole fabric of society would break down very quickly.
