∙ 13y agoPeople are generally only exempted from jury duty for status reasons, such as infirmary, active military service, or because they are full time students.
People may be struck from a jury due to their persuasions, knowledge of the case, or any number of other factors. However, their inability to be fair will not exempt them from duty, they must show up and be excused during the voir dire process.

∙ 13y ago1. High school students, college students, or graduate students can be excused from jury duty, the reason being that participating in jury duty takes time away from going to classes and studying. Proof of enrollment in school is usually required.
2. Those who have chronic illnesses can also be excused from jury duty, the reason being that they cannot stand the pressures in a court room, which causes stress. An explanation from the doctor is usually sufficient, but some states may require appearance on the date of summons.
3. Certain jobs are also valid excuses for missing jury duty. These occupations include attorneys, doctors, dentists, and caregivers. Caregivers can be excused because they take of small children or elders, and it is important for them to stay with those they are taking care of at all times.
4. Knowing the defendant is also a reason for being excused from jury duty to prevent bias during the court session. Showing up for the date of summons is still required though.
5. No means of transportation is a valid reason for missing jury duty because there is no way for the person to arrive in court. There must be proof that there is no vehicle available, public transportation is not possible, and no relative or friend is available as a driver.
