Attempts to breed raccoons in fur farms in the 1920s and 1930s in North America and Europe turned out not to be profitable, and farming was abandoned after prices for long-haired pelts dropped in the 1940s. The raccoon is still hunted, but not as much, and pelt (skin with fur) is still sold, but it's not a big business.
