Desert plants are important because they provide sources of water for desert animals. Many desert plants, such as cactus, store water inside. They also may provide desert animals with homes, such as how desert owls live inside cactus, and their flowers/leaves often provide food for desert animals, or shade.

They are an important part of the ecosystem.
