Why is your dwarf cherry tree leaves turning yellow in May?

A complete diagnosis requires more information. Is the tree newly planted? How old do you think the tree is? Can you be more specific about what type of cherry tree it is? There is a big difference in life spans of flowing cherries vs native or wild cherries. Are all the leaves turning yellow or just a portion of the crown of the tree? Is it just the inner leaves or the outer leaves? Without the above information, my best guess is that the problem is most likely related to a rooting problem or lack of nutrients. It may have been planted too deeply and is now sitting in a hole filled with water. If the tree is planted in a wet spot the same will happen.
