In each case, the name comes from the planet that starts the series . . .
Jovian planets are named from Jupiter, and Terran planets are named from Earth.
HUH? Well, "Jovian" comes from "Jove" which is another name for "Jupiter".
And "Terran" comes from "Terra", which is the Latin name for Earth.

∙ 12y agoSaturn, along with Uranus, Neptune, and Jupiter are gas giants, and are sometimes referred to in the collective sense as Jovian, meaning Jupiter-like. Jove is an alternate name for Jupiter.
