There are 5 different types of fires. Class A,B,C,D, and K.

For a Class C fire, (electrical fire) you would not want to put out that fire with a fire extinguisher that was water in it. Water and electricity is not a good mix.

Because there is different types of fire. There is a Class A, B, C, D, and K type of fire. So they made different kinds of fire extinguishers for each class of fire. There are several fire extinguishers that cover multiple classes, but not all.
