Why Are We Here?
- Why not?
- Recognize that many living things are created, as far as we know only humans have the ability to ask why we are here. To reproduce is a sufficient answer for most living things but when humans are given the ability of asking why, it is not unreasonable to expect some answer might be available to them. Many belief systems are based on answering this basic question but an objective answer must involve the value of being alive itself. So few of us are really present to the miracle of living and spend our days just going through routines, consuming, or worrying, or planning, or wishing for something better or more meaningful instead of making our life worthy of living, loving, accepting love, opening our hearts and our minds beyond what we have been taught, to comprehend the miracle of life and its creator. Why you are here is ultimately revealed in living the path you were meant to walk on this earth. All paths lead to a grave and beyond, how you know you are on the right path is that it is never the easiest, most convenient, most well trodden, it always requires you to be brave and use every part of who you are. This may be your last moment on earth, you really have no idea how long the miracle of your life will last- these may be the last words you read, live your life today as if it were your last and the world will be a canvas of your love for others and the why of your life will be expressed in every moment you are granted here.
Final life's placement, being the topic of speech
What matters to you and me, what goals you've reached
When you're body's laid to rest and your soul's free to seek
With the knowledge you receive, You got a spot picked out
You know where you wanna go from what you've learned about
Some people call it Heaven, other's say the spirit world
Where you going when you die? Are you sure? For real?
You ask me where I'm headed, I'm still trying to look
I learned one thing so far, the answer's not in a book
Many paths to choose from written by the hands of man
But they were all still alive, the information's second-hand
I don't understand, cause all religion's have flaws
Barking out commandments, how 'bout Nature's laws?
Cause when it's said and done, rivers still gonna flow
The wind's gonna blow, and trees are still gonna grow
- "I am not going to disagree with any of the many answers already provided for this question. I will certainly not disagree with the person who started out with the statement "the answer to this question is very simple" for to that person the answer IS very simple. So much is clear. In the same way neither will I disagree with the person who started out saying "the answer to this question is not simple".
- Since time immemorial this question has been asked by thinking people -- so often that one may be forgiven for thinking that the question itself is part of the purpose of life. I cannot visualize the universe without invoking a creator, but I cannot and do not attempt to divine much about what that creator is. To me it seems unnecessary to invest it with any human qualities, such as justice, forgiveness, wrath, love, etc. It also seems unnecessary to me to define it as something that cares about us, or about anything.
- Even so, many people not only assume with me that there was a creator, but that it still exists, and that it is a God, with human qualities and human likeness (and some human frailties) capable of answering prayers. Perhaps it is. One of the beauties of these assumptions is that with only a small amount of tweaking, the existence of such a creator serves to answer our question -- we are here to please the creator, the God.
- Here I speak of assumptions where many would speak of faith. I am unable to distinguish between the two. Maybe that is a deficiency in me. Further I cannot distinguish between religious assumptions and scientific ones. Another deficiency? Perhaps. This inability means that I do not distinguish between religion and science. Both are based on assumptions or faith or whatever you want to call it. Both are ultimately endeavors to answer our question.
- Is it too circular to say that the reason we are here may be to find a personally satisfactory answer to the question "Why are we here?"? I can do no better.
- "The purpose of life is to suffer, that's so obvious with all the suffering and problems in life. Try to enjoy a few happy times in life. That's about the best anyone should expect. If they've got more, enjoy it while it lasts.
- We are here because it is a stopover on our journey. This is a Cosmic Way Station. And we'll be off to somewhere else shortly.
- We are here to have s-x and produce children to populate the world.
Commonly Held Beliefs:
- God created us
- Evolution created us
- If you are a creationist or an evolutionist I believe we can all agree we are here to live.
- To destroy all life on earth with our carbon emissions.
- The most important idea behind the question "Why are we here?", is the understanding that we are here. Part of answering why we are here is in answering where is here. There is an infinite universe that requires much exploring before we can even come close to answering where here is. For many of us here is right here on planet Earth. But the reality of the situation is that no matter where we go, there we are. That we are here involves more than just the physical mechanics of where we are in terms of external environment, that we also tend to ask who we are suggests a consciousness separate from our bodies, yet when we look inward just what are we looking at? We do not actually use our eyes to scan the insides of our body when we ask who we are, when we look inward we actually see nothing at all, it's when we look outward towards the future that we see ourselves, and who we are there, or how we see our selves then defines the choices we make now. Why are we here? I'm not sure why the rest of you are here, but I know that you are here and that also enters into the answer in regards to why I am here. Why am I here? I know that I am here, and I know that all I've done while I was here has been by choice. Perhaps it is reasonable to postulate that I chose to be here, and I ask now why I am here to remind myself why I chose to be here. If I remind myself that I chose to be here, it is reasonable to postulate that before I chose to be here in this body, I was something else before that. Who was I before I chose to become this person now? And who was I before I chose to be the one who chose to become this person now? Discovering who I am is essential in understanding why I am here. Once I've figured out who I am, coming to understand why I am here will become a much more practical question. Hopefully I will be able to answer that question before the body I chose to inhabit gives out, and I find myself as someone else making choices of who I want to be. Why am I here? Why are you here, and who are you? bye! answer book babe
- Christian: "Our only purpose to server God and Convert Everyone" Atheists: "Our only purpose is to live a good life for moral reasons not a threat of going to hell or for our own selfish reasons and also to reproduce and keep the species alive." - To see if god can trust us enough to help us when we die.
- In layman's terms, to occupy space.
- In my opinion I think we are here to serve a purpose. God put us here for a reason we might as well take it and make it the best we know how.
