Not to be confused with a Dun, a gray colored horse is called a Gray. Characteristics are a blending of white and black hairs and range from very light to very dark. At birth Grays are dark and lighten as they mature.

Most white appearing horses are actually grey horses that have completed the greying process. The are very light creme colored horses called Cremello, but they are actually an off-white. The closest you will get to a pure white horse is a maximun white sabino. This is actually a pinto pattern where the white part of the pattern covers nearly all of the colored part of the horses coat. The horse may hvae a few freckles of color on its ears or elsewhere, but will look solid white.
