There are several possibilities. One is a bad HDMI cable and the the second is possibly the HDMI connector on the TV/DVD player end is loose.
Other possible causes are that a lot of TV's use a separate HDMI input module and those will frequently go bad. That will require a replacement.
Another possibility (especially on some model Samsung sets where the HDMI cable plugs in, is that the HDMI connector in the TV actually breaks itself loose from the circuit board. That too, will require a replacement "main board" in the TV. Big if you don't have an extended warranty plan.

They may eventually fail if they are being handled and unplugged continually but other than that, expensive cables have no benefit over the very cheapest of HDMI cable.
