It doesn't just happen when they eat, scientists don't know why they do it, but it is normal and nothing to worry about unless their eyes don't go back in after two hours then you need to go to a vet asap, but that shouldn't happen.

∙ 11y agoThey puff off to cool them selves or to scare away predators and for some of them also use it to slow down when they running. Most of them run so fast that they can not be run out!

∙ 12y agoWhen a bearded dragon puffs up it's stomach it usually means one of two things.
First thing, which is the more common, is taking up heat. A beardie will always make itself as large as possible in order to take in as much heat as possible, which then allows it to survive longer when away from the heat source.
Secondly, the beardie can also use this as a defence mechanism, making itself look bigger and more intimidating in order to ward off any immediate threats toward it.
If you own a bearded dragon then you will clearly know the difference between the two methods.
