Why you can't breathe and drink at the same time?

when u are eating food which goes through the esophagus the trachea (wind pipe) closes.

i.e epiglottis is the elastic tissue between your food pipe and wind pipe.normally it closes the food pipe,when u breath and it closes the wind pipe when u eat food otherwise food will go to wind pipe causes the cough.

There is a large cartillagenous flap in the larynx called the eppiglottis. This stops any food getting down the trachea as well as stopping air going into the oesophagus. It isalso imposible to breath while swallowing.

Well, you can drink and breathe at the same time, but only from the nose. Breathe from the mouth you'd be choking. :)

because you have to passages . you have the nose passage and the esophagus. once you try to swallow food, the esophagus opens and covers the upper part and covers the nose too.
