Why can an iPod Touch have an Internet signal but cannot load the Internet?

The signal from the router you are using may be too weak. Move closer to the router. If this does not solve the problem, then turn your iPod off and then back on.
My 4th generation will have wi-fi for a while and then even though it displays the signal at the top, it will no longer load internet pages. I use a Netgear wireless router. If you go into your Settings>Wi-Fi>and click the arrow next to your network check and see if the IP address is something like "169.254.69.240" instead of a 192.1.3 or something similar. If it starts with 169 that means it is having trouble assigning an IP address and finding a DHCP server. It checks for this server periodically so you may find that waiting it out will resolve the issue. You can try clicking on "Renew Lease" which doesn't always work. The sure fire way I have found is to turn off the router, wait at least 20 seconds, and then turn it back on again.
Honestly I think it is an issue with the router not the iTouch because mine works fine at other people's houses when I log into their wi-fi.

I get this sometimes in public wi-fi hotspots. The Touch will say that it has an internet connection, but none of my apps (maps, mail, etc) will be able to update. Some public wi-fi hotspots (like McDonalds or Starbucks) require you to acknowledge their terms of service before they give you internet access. Although I have Google on my Touch, I have to open Safari in order to get the logon message. So open Safari and, if necessary, refresh the page and you may see a logon message from the wi-fi provider.
