If you are dealing with a serious open wound, don't screw around with over the counter stuff. Go directly to emerg and have it dealt with properly.
If it is a cut or something minor, clean the cut with warm water and soap, put a clean bandage on it. It's a lot cheaper than the fifty dollars + they charge for one little tube.
