Because if you touch it, you may get dirt or oils from your skin on the bulb. Since halogen bulbs operate at a much higher temperature than conventional bulbs, the contaminants may cause the bulb to break. If you do touch the bulb, clean it with an alcohol swab before installing it.

How do you replace the headlights on a 1998 dodge stratus?

There are two hex/star screws above the headlight casing that need to be removed first. Then you slide out the headlight casing to expose the backside, there you will find the a medium sized slipnut around the Halogen bulb. Turn counter clock wise to release and pull back gently allowing the halogen bulb to come free of the headlight casing. Unplug the Halogen bulb (a flatheaded screw driver my be needed to pry the locking clasp) To install the new Halogen bulb reverse the above steps be very careful to NOT touch the Halogen Bulb itself. The oils on your skin can cause the bulb to blow out sooner when power is given to the bulb. Tighten everything back up and you are done...

What is a halogen microwave?

There is no halogen microwave. There is a halogen microwave oven bulb. (The technical term for a "bulb" is a lamp.) Some microwave ovens use a halogen lamp to light up the oven cavity. Replacing them is similar to replacing a "regular" incandescent lamp, except that when halogen lamps are being replaced, it is critical not to touch the lamp with bare fingers. Leaving skin oils on a halogen lamp shortens the lamp life and can set up a dangerous situation where the lamp might overheat.

What can be done about stopping halogen lights from working intermittently if you wiggle the bulb they work but then stop working?

I was at Napa the other day and I got Halogen headlights for my car the man that was serving me told me DO NOT touch the bulb with your skin as the oils from our skin can make Halogen bulbs not work (they may work for a bit and then stop). Maybe try replacing the bulb without touching it. (wear some mits or something I know lamps can be a pain)
